It is with great regret that I let you know that our dean of Humanities, Nasrin Rahimieh is leaving McMaster. She has been offered the position of Maseeh endowed Chair and founding Director of the newly created Samuel M. Jordan Centre for Persian Studies and Culture at the University of California, Irvine.
Nasrin has made tremendous contributions to her Faculty and the University during her tenure at McMaster. Under her guidance the Faculty has focused its strengths and developed new programs for students that have brought recognition to McMaster as one of the most innovative Faculties of Humanities in the country.
This unique opportunity is a great advancement for such a renowned international scholar and we wish Nasrin well as she begins this new adventure. The offer is now being formalized at the University of California with a starting date of July 1, 2006. I will be in touch as soon as possible with the details of plans for an acting dean.
Congratulations again to Nasrin and our sincerest thanks for all that you have brought to McMaster.
Sincerely,
Ken Norrie
