Construction on campus

There’s plenty of construction activity on campus these days, some of which will change the landscape of McMaster as we know it.

Here’s a sneak peak at some of the construction already underway and what’s planned for the near future.

Peter George Centre for Living and Learning

This new 340,000 square foot building of multi-functional space will be the largest on campus. It will add two new 600 seat student lecture halls, underground parking, a daycare and a state of the art active learning classroom. It will also feature a 500-bed residence and conference facility.

Construction is progressing on time and on budget, with expected completion in August 2019.

David Braley Athletic Centre Expansion

This 100,000 square foot addition will include additional space for student programming, activities and athletics.

Thanks to the generous support of students, ground breaks on this project in September 2018 with expected completion in 2022.

A.N.Bourns Science Building (ABB) Expansion Project

This project funded by federal and provincial governments, in partnership with McMaster, includes an extensive renovation and addition of 63,000 square feet to ABB on the west side of campus.

This new space will help facilitate and enrich the collaboration between the faculties of science and engineering.

Completion of this project is scheduled for Fall 2018.

Cootes Drive Transit Hub

The University is actively working with Metrolinx to build a transit hub that will bring LRT, HSR, GO Transit and a public parking structure to the northwest corner of university.

The transit hub has been approved by both McMaster and Metrolinx and construction will be completed as part of the overall LRT plan within the City of Hamilton.

Temporary Classrooms

New temporary classrooms have been constructed on campus between Divinity College and the Life Sciences Building, off University Avenue.

Each of these classrooms holds 150 students and is intended to manage demand for lecture space until the Peter George Centre for Living and Learning opens.

These cost-efficient, modular structures are constructed to be durable, well-insulated, and energy efficient.

The temporary classrooms are expected to be in use until 2019.

Booster Juice in Engineering Technology Building (ETB)

The e-café in ETB will be converted to a Booster Juice just in time for the back to school rush this September. With close proximity to the Main Street bus stop, Hospitality Services anticipates an influx of customers from Mac and the general public. Booster Juice has been a very successful brand on campus, in fact the location in La Piazza is one of the busiest in Ontario.

Food Court Renovation at Institute For Applied Health Sciences Building

A full renovation of the food court will provide a refreshed look and feel with completion planned for September 2018. The food court won’t only look different, there will be some new and different food items offered as well.

Stay tuned for additional updates on these constructions projects and more in the coming months.
