Conference tackles auto, aerospace manufacturing challenges

Promoting greater and faster adoption of new technologies by Canada's manufacturing sector is the motivation behind Manufacturing Optimization: The Next Generation conference being held November 4 in Toronto.

More than 300 automotive and aerospace engineering leaders are expected to participate in the one-day conference at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education.

The Hon. Michael Bryant, Minister of Economic Development, Government of Ontario and Mo Elbestawi, Vice-President Research and International Affairs, McMaster University, are the morning keynote speakers.

Speakers presenting case studies and seminars include representatives from Sandvik Coromant, Delcam, Renishaw, GE Canada, DEVTEK, Messier-Douty, Nemak, Elkem Metals, Goodrich Landing Gear, GM Canada, McMaster University, University of Toronto, University of Windsor, University of British Columbia, and the University of Montreal.

Topics include: recycling of materials, green strategies for manufacturing, optimization of machining processes, and advancements in processing technology and materials.

The conference is being organized by the McMaster Manufacturing Research Institute (MMRI) at McMaster University, the Centre for Management of Technology and Entrepreneurship (CMTE) at the University of Toronto, and the Manufacturing Technology Network.
