Computing and Software research team wins IBM Project of the Year Award
McMaster’s Computing and Software associate professor, Christopher Anand and his research team have won the IBM Centre for Advanced Studies Project of the Year Award.
Selected from a total of 48 projects from universities around the world, the team’s winning project aims to create hardware and software solutions that accelerate the computation of core mathematical functions needed for applications from computer animation to machine learning.
“This award recognizes the practical value of this research, and it will help us get the resources we need to turn our new processor design innovations into products,” says Anand.
The project was chosen as it best exemplifies the IBM Centre for Advanced Studies’ mission by delivering excellence in applied research, exposing IBM development teams to new and emerging technologies, and transferring results into commercial products. The patented technology that results from this project will impact future generations of IBM processors.
The team was honoured this past Monday at CASCON 2018, the 28thAnnual International Conference on Computer Science and Software Engineering in Toronto.
Wolfram Kahl, associate computing and software professor, joined Anand in accepting the award along with undergraduate, Master’s and PhD students, Curtis d’Alves, Tanya Bouman, Lucas Dutton, Yumna Irfan, Yusra Irfan and Adele Olejarz.
“This award wouldn’t have been possible without the work of many current and graduated McMaster students,” adds Anand.
