Seventeen McMaster students received the 2009 citizenship awards during a ceremony that included representatives of the Ainslie Wood/Westdale Community Association of Homeowners, Hamilton Police Services, the McMaster Student Union and the University.

The awards recognize students who have demonstrated qualities and actions that enhanced the community and made them good neighbours during the 2008/09 academic year.

“It's a real pleasure to recognize these students who are great citizens of our neighbourhoods,” says Shelli Eisenberg, student liaison, AWWCA.

“This is a timely reminder that McMaster students are important and valued citizens in Hamilton who contribute greatly to the neighbourhoods of our city,” says Phil Wood, dean of students and associate vice-president student affairs.

The awards program is an initiative of the AWWCA, McMaster University, McMaster Students Union, Hamilton Police Services, Westdale Business Improvement Area and the City of Hamilton.
