The reasons for financially supporting McMaster are as varied as the types of people
who do so: recognition of the University's role in an alumnus' life, support for
groundbreaking work performed by world-renowned researchers, assistance for
students in need.

It's for these same reasons, and many others, that each year McMaster turns to its own
community for support. The month-long Community Campaign kicks off Friday at 1
p.m. in the Student Centre atrium and, according to Karen McQuigge, it's a great
opportunity for the campus community to reaffirm their support for the world-class
educational experience provided at McMaster.

“The Community Campaign is really about reconnecting students, faculty, staff and
retirees with what the University is all about,” said McQuigge, director of Alumni
Advancement. “It's a great reminder of why we all come to work each day.”

This year's campaign features the opportunity for community members to visit a
number of places on campus during the Doors Open McMaster tours, running April 11
to 15 and sweets will be used to provide scholarships as part of the Treat-a-Gram
fundraiser.

University President Patrick Deane will speak at the kickoff event, which will also
include old-fashioned refreshments and commemorative photos with “Senator William
McMaster,” whose own gift created McMaster University.

“McMaster is unique in that it is here as the direct result of a philanthropic gift,” said
McQuigge. “The University itself is proof that community philanthropy can have life-
changing results for many, many people.”

The Community Campaign will highlight the University's founding on April 22.
