The DeGroote School of Business presented its annual Wayne C. Fox Distinguished Alumni Award to commerce alumnus John Marinucci last week at the School’s Evening of Accolades.

Marinucci, who graduated from McMaster in 1980, is the 15th recipient of the award. Following his graduation he launched an impressive career, gaining extensive experience in the manufacturing sector, in operational restructurings and in management of highly leveraged business concerns.

“When I enrolled at McMaster in 1976, I had no idea what I wanted to do,” he said. “The Mac experience was inspirational for two important reasons. First, I began to recognize the numerous career pathways and potential opportunities available to aspiring business graduates. Furthermore, the broad based education and guidance received at Mac provided the confidence I needed to pursue my post graduate aspirations.”

Marinucci served for eight years as president and COO for a major Canadian manufacturer and lessor of freight rail cars and is a former president of the Canadian Association of Railway Suppliers. He held executive and senior management roles within leading Canadian and United States-based organizations. He joined New Flyer in 2002 as president and CEO, retiring as an executive officer at the beginning of 2009.

Throughout his career, Marinucci and his family have been very engaged with McMaster. He earned his Chartered Director designation through DeGroote’s Directors College, through the Marinucci Family Foundation he supported the construction of the Ron Joyce Centre and established two academic grants for students, and his son and future daughter-in-law are also graduates of McMaster.

“McMaster has provided the inspiration and foundational knowledge base I required when I began my career,” said Marinucci. “I strongly believe in the power of learning and its positive impact on our communities and the quality of our lives. Our educational institutions play a critical role in developing and inspiring our future leaders.”
