Collective Bargaining Update-August 28

In advance of the Final Offer vote September 2nd and 3rd by members of CAW Local 555 Unit 1, the University has prepared a summary of how the pay for individual members will increase over the term of the proposed contract.
The summary can be found here. It includes a link to a series of charts that helps members determine exactly what the proposed agreement means to them. These charts include the across-the-board increases in addition to normal step increases and the lump sum payment that is also part of the Final Offer.
The Final Offer vote on the overall package will be held on September 2 and 3. Polls will be held at a number of locations including the main campus, the Downtown Centre, hospitals and other sites. The exact locations and times have yet to be confirmed by the Ontario Labour Relations Board which is supervising the secret ballot vote.
The University requested a Final Offer Vote to ensure that every individual member of the bargaining unit has the opportunity to vote. It's important that every member participates and casts a ballot.
If the majority vote “yes”, then a new collective agreement will be in place.
If the majority vote “no” it could cause the CAW to call a strike based on the 58% strike mandate.
As has been explained by the union, the CAW national executive can still authorize a strike even if the local strike vote doesn't meet the two-thirds majority required in the CAW constitution.
The University has tabled its best and final offer. A “no” vote does not mean a better offer will be presented.
