CMA is a national organization that grants professional designations in management accounting. Today's donation by the Ontario chapter will fund student lounge space on the second floor of DeGroote's Ron Joyce Centre, currently under construction on the South Service Road in Burlington.

“We are proud that we are able to support higher education through our partnerships with DeGroote,” said Merv Hillier, president and CEO of CMA Ontario. “With this donation towards the expansion for the School, we are pleased to support both the construction and the development of future business leaders.”

CMA Ontario is a longtime supporter of DeGroote. The organization has previously provided financial support for education and research initiatives focused on developing the teaching of management accounting at DeGroote. CMA Ontario also regularly participates in information nights, case competitions, round table events, student-alumni networking evenings and initiatives organized by the DeGroote Accounting Association.

“We are grateful for CMA Ontario's ongoing support of DeGroote, and we are enthusiastic about furthering our partnership throughout this expansion project,” said DeGroote dean Paul Bates. “As a CMA myself, this donation has special meaning, and I am very proud that CMA Ontario has chosen to support this important project.”

DeGroote's MBA and Honours Commerce programs are both accredited by CMA Canada, meaning that DeGroote graduates will be given exemption from the CMA Entrance Exam if they achieve a 75 per cent average in the courses required for the CMA prerequisite studies. DeGroote also offers a management accounting specialization in its MBA program, which provides a fast-track to the CMA designation with courses recognized for CMA's Strategic Leadership Program.

Earlier this year, 100 per cent of the students in the management accounting specialization successfully completed their board report, a key step in earning their CMA designation.
