The award for Dale Roy will be announced by the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (STLHE) at its annual conference at the University of Windsor June 12.

It is presented to individuals who have, over their career, made significant contributions to teaching, learning and educational development in Canadian higher education.

Roy is being recognized for his work promoting teaching and learning at the national, provincial and local levels.

“Dale epitomizes scholarly generosity: He is forthcoming with advice, but only when asked, recognizes others' contributions ahead of his own, and creates opportunities for others to shine. His gentle humility makes him a valuable mentor for others in that he always puts their agendas ahead of his own,” says Nicola Simmons of the University of Waterloo.

Initiating a novel approach to fostering collaboration in departmental curriculum is another example of his leadership. Six departments have benefited from this program.

“Dale is held in very high esteem and for excellent reasons. He is wise, penetrating, collegial and incredibly supportive,” says Pippa Lock, an assistant professor of Chemistry at McMaster.

The Centre for Leadership in Learning is a resource for everyone who teaches at McMaster University. Its services include providing help with teaching issues, course feedback, workshops, seminars and symposia. It also conducts peer consulting, provides guidance on learning technology and provides resources for teaching.
