Tickets are moving fast for an event with a namesake once thought responsible for sinking the Titanic.

The much anticipated McMaster Students Union Charity Ball, with its Egyptian, "Curse of Amun-Ra" theme, will be held on Feb. 5 at the Hamilton Convention Centre.

Organizers of this year's event are aiming to raise upwards of $30,000 in support of the McMaster Children's Hospital's Neurosurgery Department, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Hamilton and the McMaster Alumni Association's Senior Class Gift, which last year went to the University Library.

"It's a great night of fun and entertainment," said Mizna Zaveri, Charity Ball organizing chair. "But it's also an opportunity for students to give back to the community."

The night will feature DJ's, live entertainment, hors d'oeuvres, a silent auction and a charity casino run by members of the McMaster alumni community.

The event's theme refers to an urban legend which says that a cursed mummy on-board the Titanic was responsible for the ship's disastrous fate.

Charity Ball has raised nearly $200,000 over the past 11 years and is McMaster's largest formal.
