McMaster commissioned the portraits to recognize the Chancellors' significant contributions to the University.

With current Chancellor Lynton (Red) Wilson, as well as President and Vice-Chancellor Peter George in attendance, representatives from the McMaster Students Union, alumni and the Westdale community paid tribute to those who have dedicated much of their time and energy to developing McMaster into the world-class institution it is today.

“These men are the very best of the McMaster family,” said President George in his remarks to those attending the celebration. “Their contributions to McMaster are priceless.”

Turning to the former Chancellors in attendance, he added “Thank you for your dedication, your leadership, the example you set for our community and for all that you have done for McMaster.”

Wilson acknowledged that he has big shoes to fill in his role as Chancellor, saying that he is keenly aware of his predecessors' spectacular legacies.

“I will do my best to live up to my predecessors' expectations,” said Wilson. “McMaster has asked us to serve and we have done so and we will continue to do so.”

The portraits, drawn by artist Wendy Angel, can be viewed in the Council Chambers (Gilmour Hall, Room 111) and feature campus newspaper articles from each of the Chancellors' terms arranged below.
