McMaster's campus radio station has been named tops in the city.

CFMU 93.3 FM was recognized as Radio Station of the Year for the fourth time at
the Hamilton Music Industry Awards, a celebration of those who work behind the
scenes of Hamilton's music industry.

Jamie Tennant, CFMU's program director, credits the station's volunteers and staff
with its success.

“We always strive to feature local talent, both in terms of the music we play as well
as in the community-based content we feature,” he said. “Our volunteers and staff
members are the ones who provide that content, so they're the ones who really earned
this award. They should be very proud.”

The station previously won top honours in 2004, 2005 and 2007.

CFMU's music director and McMaster student Emma Ditchburn was nominated for
Music Director of the Year, and CFMU's local indie music and talk show “Lullabies in
Razorland” was nominated for Radio Show of the Year.

The station began broadcasting as McMaster Radio in 1963. It began transmitting
on the FM band in 1978. It is owned and operated by the McMaster Students Union.

The Hamilton Music Awards will air on CHCH television from 7-10 p.m. on
Saturday, Dec. 4.
