Celebrating International Women’s Day on campus

Groups across McMaster have events planned for International Women’s Day, which is celebrated on March 8 each year. Here are a few:

  • Tallest Poppy: International Women’s Day discussion on female leadership and success

    Join author Rumeet Billan, Arig al Shaibah, McMaster’s associate vice-president, equity and inclusion, and Kristina Epifano, MSU vice-president, administration, for a discussion on what Tall Poppy Syndrome is and what can be done about it.

    9:30 am to 11:30 am, L.R. Wilson Concert Hall
    Students: free
    Staff: $25, or a donation of gently used business wear
    Proceeds and clothing to benefit Interval House of Hamilton

  • International Women’s Day 2019: A celebration of McMaster women

    Faculty and staff are invited to an inspirational talk from Erin Elofson, country manager of Pinterest Canada. Presented by the Academic Women’s Success and Mentorship Committee, in collaboration with Human Resources Services, the event will also include remarks from Wanda McKenna, McMaster’s chief human resources officer, and Arig al Shaibah, the associate vice-president of equity and inclusion.

    12 pm to 2 pm, McMaster University Club, Great Hall

  • Women’s Wiki Day and Happy Hour

    The department of religious studies is hosting an edit-a-thon to edit and create Wikipedia entries to combat gender bias.

    1:30 pm to 4 pm, University Hall, room 122
