Celebrating a decade of service

The ten years of service milestone was celebrated with food, refreshments and even a friendly game of croquet last month at the first such celebration of those who have worked at McMaster for a decade.

More than 150 employees were recognized last month at the University’s first Ten Years of Service BBQ.

Staff were treated to food, refreshments and even a friendly game of croquet at the event, held on the lawn in front of the Burke Science Building.

“The first 10 years of someone’s job has a lot packaged in,” said President Patrick Deane, who spoke to staff at the event. “They’re giving a lot and a lot is demanded of them. So I think it’s important to recognize and celebrate their achievements and hard work.”

Matthew Lempriere, a business system analyst with University Technology Services, was among the staff members who celebrated the milestone. He says he never thought he’d spend 10 years with one organization.

“The job never got stale. It may just be one job title, but there are many project opportunities to be a part of,” said Lempriere.

Lempriere has worked on a wide range of institutional projects, including Solar, parking automation and Mosaic.

“It’s empowering to be a part of the changes and not just affected by it,” he said.
