Some of McMaster's longest-serving staff members were recognized yesterday at the University's annual Years of Service luncheon, held in the Student Centre's CIBC Hall.

Nearly 200 employees, all with more than 15 years of service at McMaster, were honoured at the event, hosted by University President Patrick Deane. In his address, Deane extended his personal thanks to the staff members being recognized.

'As a new leader, it is gratifying for me to see the loyalty and commitment that McMaster employees have made, and continue to make to this University,” he said. “Regardless of which milestone you celebrate this year, whether it is 15 or 40 years of service, you have been part of McMaster's extraordinary growth and continuous development as a world class institution for teaching and research.

Four of the employees in attendance, including Antoinette Finelli, were celebrating 40 years of service to the University. Finelli, who immigrated to Canada when she was only five years old, began working in the Collections and Technical Services Department at the Health Sciences Library shortly after high school. She continues to play an integral role at the Library today.

The individuals celebrated at the luncheon represent nearly 4,000 years of service at McMaster.
