The Public Relations Certificate/Diploma program offers a variety of tactical and strategic courses to help students develop public relations skills and become strategic thinkers in the field of public relations. Part-time evening courses are offered at the Downtown Centre in Hamilton.

“The role of a public relations practitioner is not limited to writing newsletters, press releases and dealing with an organizational crisis,” said Todd Rich, program manager at CCE. “Public relations is about using communications techniques to support an organization's strategic goals. At McMaster, using public relations strategies to communicate with students, parents, faculty, staff, community members, media and other key stakeholders is seen as a best practice.”

Terry Flynn, director of McMaster University's Master's of Communications Management program, and an integral member of CCE's public relations development team, added, “This certificate/diploma program is a great opportunity for newcomers and current practitioners in the field to get a university education in public relations. The program has hired instructors who hold senior level management positions, including Alan Chumley, director of measurement at Hill & Knowlton and Susan Quinn Mullins, former director of corporate reputation management at Astrazeneca Canada Inc.”

According to Flynn, these two programs demonstrate how McMaster University is committed to becoming an educational leader in public relations by developing the public relations leaders of the future.
