When MBA students look out their classroom window this September, they won't see the stone and ivy walls that typify McMaster. They will see the City of Burlington spread out before them.

The Ron Joyce Centre, the new home of the DeGroote School of Business' MBA program and Executive Education offerings as of September of this year, will be open for business on the South Service Road in Burlington just west of Appleby Line. All major construction milestones have been met, and the building will be completed this summer, ready for the September opening.

The project reached an important milestone this week as the glass that will fill students' classroom windows was completed. A total 1,750 panels were installed, covering an area of more than 4,000 square metres. In football units, the glass would nearly cover Les Prince Field in the Ron Joyce Stadium, including end zones.

As glass installation has been progressing, work on the interior has begun, with steel framing well underway on the first and second floors. Drywall installation will also be starting shortly.

Mechanical and electrical systems have been roughed in and permanent power will be energized in the next couple of weeks. Interior stairwells have been erected throughout the four-storey building and elevators will be shipped to the site next week to begin installation.

The completion of the roof is slated to happen later this month.

In keeping with the University's Sustainable Building Policy, the Ron Joyce Centre has a sustainable, environmentally-conscious focus. All stages of construction are carefully documented to ensure the building will meet the requirements for the targeted LEED Gold Certification.

In addition to an environmental focus, the building has been designed specifically for professional business education. Within the glass-walled space are flexible areas that can be configured for tutorials, workshops, group study or networking. The learning spaces within the Ron Joyce Centre will facilitate advanced learning approaches that will allow DeGroote to better prepare the business leaders of tomorrow.
