Brand New Fourth-Year Seminar Explores ‘The Trump Era’

The Department of Political Science and The Socrates Project have partnered to create a course where students can explore everything Trump. In this special seminar, select students will take part in discussions with multiple faculty members, embark on an ambitious experiential learning and research project, and present their work to the general public. They will also work with The Department of Political Science and The Centre for Continuing Education to put on the Trump Talks, public events which follow last year’s successful speaking roster.

POLSCI 4ZZ6 CO2 – Experiential Learning in Research: Democracy, Authority, and Dissent in the Trump Era, is an innovative course which gives students the chance to interact with multiple faculty members and guest speakers, work under the supervision of an academic specialist, discuss fascinating material, and create a project that is relevant and engaging to the community.

This course will explore consequential issues of the Trump administration including: the rise of populism; fake news, disinformation and conspiracy theories; electoral integrity and democratic governance in the digital age; migration, race, gender and disparities in opportunity, health and wealth; money and politics; political polarization and the role of dissent in democracy.

Slots in the course are still open. Fourth-year students may request permission to join the course by contacting Tyler Welch – welchtz@mcmaster.ca
