The assistant director position was created in response to the growing demand for continuing education courses.
“Interest in continuing education is growing rapidly,” said Boniface. “I am so excited about having the opportunity to work with the CCE team to develop new programs that meet the needs of our employment market as well as the interests of our students.”
A growing number of university graduates are enrolling in diploma programs to enhance their degrees. These programs focus on professional education that aligns directly with specific careers to improve a student's hiring potential in a competitive job market.
“We have noticed an increasing trend that university graduates are pursuing diploma programs to complement their degree,” said Boniface. “In a three- or four-year undergraduate program, students develop competencies such as communications skills and the ability to think critically and solve problems. In diploma programs, students develop job specific knowledge such as in human resources management or marketing. This combination of education is powerful in terms of preparation for a very successful career.”
Students can receive degree credit for certificate and diploma programs. The CCE also offers a variety of personal and professional development courses, workshops and corporate training.
Boniface served as the manager of Career Services for the past five years. She holds an MBA from Wilfrid Laurier University and is currently completing a degree in adult education from Brock University. In addition, Boniface has been involved with the Core Competency Steering Committee and served as chair of the McMaster United Way Campaign.
“Lisa's background was perfect for what we were looking for,” said Tracey Taylor-O'Reilly, director of CCE.
