McMaster's planned Burlington campus took another significant step forward today as the University's Board of Governors approved the project in principle.

The Board endorsement follows a similar decision by Burlington Council, which approved the campus in principle in April.

“This is an important step forward for the McMaster campus in Burlington,” says Dr. Peter George, President, McMaster University.

“With these approvals, the University and City can work together on the final planning needed for the project. McMaster looks forward to the opening of the campus and is appreciative of the City's ongoing support.”

The City of Burlington is providing $10 million towards the construction of the academic building. It is also providing a downtown site for the campus.

The DeGroote School of Business is the primary focus of the McMaster Burlington campus. The school's executive MBA, MBA and some graduate programs will be located there.

The campus plan also includes a McMaster family medicine clinic, which is a community family practice teaching unit of the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine. The clinic will house a team of family physicians who teach medical residents and provide care to patients

The McMaster Burlington Campus was approved in principle at the Senate meeting on June 13.
