BHM is a time to celebrate the contributions and achievements of Black, Carribean and African diasporic peoples. This year’s theme at McMaster is From Continent to Diaspora: Celebrating Black Resistance.

The theme provides a global perspective on past and ongoing resistance efforts, while also respecting the diversity of identities and regionalities. “By honouring Black resistance, we acknowledge the ongoing journey toward justice, equality, and freedom, fostering a deeper appreciation for the diverse and enduring contributions of the Black community,” organizers say.

“By showcasing the Black Excellence that has emerged, Black History Month becomes a platform for inspiration, encouraging present and future generations to stand up against injustice and discrimination.”

Artists interested in performing in BHM at McMaster events can contact organizers here

The month-long celebration begins with a launch event in the atrium of MUSC on Feb. 1, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Through a tapestry of performances, the event will celebrate the enduring legacy of Black individuals who stood against adversity, fostering healing and empowerment in their communities.

If you would like to perform at the Feb. 1 kick-off event or at other BHM events throughout the month, please fill out this form.

Students, faculty, staff and community members are invited to contribute their campus events to the BHM calendar. To submit an event description and/or posters to the BHM planning committee, please fill out this form.

The committee will create a calendar that will be circulated to the campus community and promoted on McMaster BHM Instagram and Twitter accounts. Adding your event to this listing will help create awareness of it across campus and the broader Hamilton community.

The calendar will be featured by McMaster community partners and on official websites including the Equity and Inclusion Office, Student Affairs, the Black Student Success Centre and here on Daily News.
