Tessa Wilson knew McMaster was the place for her the first time she toured campus.

The native of Cambridge, Ont. says she wasn't sure what school to attend until she
visited the University and “fell in love” with it, choosing McMaster as the best place for
her to study geography and Earth sciences.

Four years later, Wilson is one of a number of students in social sciences being
honoured at the Faculty's annual awards assembly.

University President Patrick Deane will join Ilene Busch-Vishniac, Provost and vice-
president academic as well as Roy Cain, the Faculty's acting dean, in celebrating the
best and brightest students in social sciences.

In addition to landing on the Dean's Honour List, Wilson will also be given The Junior
League of Hamilton-Burlington's Community Contribution Award for her service to the
McMaster community, as well as The Hamilton Transportation Club's scholarship, for
her achievement in researching transportation and logistics.

Wilson is now in grad school studying urban planning and hopes to land a job in the
field of waste management and planning upon graduation.

“I've always had an interest in what's going on around me,” said Wilson. “Studying at
McMaster really allowed me to explore areas of interest. Geography and Earth sciences
is a small program, so you really get to know your professors and your classmates.”

The event is scheduled for Wednesday night at 5 p.m. in Convocation Hall.
