In a ceremony this morning, the Excellence in Academic Libraries Award, granted yearly by the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL), was accepted by McMaster University President Peter George.

“This award recognizes the significant changes that have occurred within McMaster's libraries that have transformed them into active incubators of ideas and enthusiasm through innovative services and the use of technology,” said George. “Being the first Canadian university to receive this award is truly outstanding.”

University librarian Jeff Trzeciak and fellow staff members were recognized for their willingness to implement change and take risks, and for offering services that focus on students and the academic community.

“Receiving this award is significant on a number of levels, but most importantly it recognizes the tremendous commitment of the dedicated library staff to developing a truly innovative and excellent 21st century library,” said Trzeciak. “It sends a clear message that the library is headed in the right direction and is destined for even further greatness.”

Previous winners of the award include Georgia Tech University, the University of Virginia and Cornell University Library.
