Art supply ‘swap shop’ helps paint brighter future for the planet

Level 2 Studio Arts students set up their 'swap shop', created as part of a course on environmentally-friendly art-making.
What do artists do with half-empty cans of paint?
What about old brushes, used sketchbooks and other supplies?
If they’re students in Judy Major-Girardin’s Environmentally Responsible Studio Art course, they swap the supplies for something they need.
Tasked with creating something environmentally sustainable which has a positive impact on the studio environment, second-year students created the Ambassador project: an art “swap shop” in Togo Salmon Hall.
The shop created a way for student-artists to exchange and reuse old art supplies and prevent them from being discarded without a second use.
Students in the Environmentally Responsible Studio Art course worked on a number of Earth-friendly projects this year, including exploring the use of bamboo as a sustainable, alternative art-making material.
