Arrest made in Brandon Hall Fire

Following an extensive investigation Hamilton police have arrested a McMaster student in connection with the Brandon Hall fire.
“The fire at Brandon Hall has been a frightening experience for the students who lived there as well as their families and friends,” says Phil Wood, associate vice-president student affairs and dean of students. “The fire was made much more shocking because it was deliberately set and because a McMaster student has been charged in connection with the case.”
“McMaster thanks the Hamilton Police Service for its outstanding efforts and is appreciative of our students' ongoing assistance with the investigation and co-operation during this challenging time.”
Charged with one count of arson endangering human life and one count arson endangering property is Emerson Pardoe, 19-years old and a first-year Brandon Hall resident. The University has suspended Mr. Pardoe.
The October 18th fire displaced 554 Brandon Hall residents. Since that time, McMaster has relocated the majority of students to area hotels and has taken further steps to provide support and assistance to those affected.
Students are reminded that anyone requiring counseling assistance should contact the Centre for Student Development. Further information regarding other support programs is available in the Brandon Hall lounge and will be communicated directly to students.
The University continues to do everything it can to expedite the restoration of Brandon Hall for occupancy as quickly as possible.
