The extension was approved by the Board of Governors on June 14.

“I am delighted that Fred Hall's appointment has been extended because his extensive knowledge of the University and central role in undergraduate education will be of great assistance to the new provost,” said Bob McNutt, acting provost.

The associate vice-president (academic) is responsible for developing and coordinating policies and practices with respect to undergraduate education and enrolment management. The position also plays a key role in a wide range of academic matters related to undergraduate studies, particularly those issues that cross faculty boundaries and/or involve other educational institutions.

Hall chairs several major university committees, including Undergraduate Council, University Student Fees Committee, Enrolment Management Team and Associate Deans Group. He is also responsible for Undergraduate Program Reviews and the Centre for Continuing Education.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my two terms in this position, and look forward to continuing as a member of senior management, especially as we welcome our new provost and begin to meet the challenges of undertaking program reviews and strategic planning for the next three years,” said Hall.

Hall was recently granted a McMaster Alumni Association Honorary Membership for outstanding contributions to the University.

McMaster's new provost, Ilene Busch-Vishniac, will take office on August 1, 2007.
