In the “MACmazing Race”, teams will be looking for clues that will take them from checkpoint to checkpoint, towards the finish line and $400 grand prize.

“McMaster has a beautiful campus with myriad secrets that is perfect for an amazing race,” says race organizer, Christine Kennedy. “I think participants will find the race challenging but not frustrating and may learn a little about themselves as they work through the course with their partner.”

Organized by the McMaster Alumni Association, the race is part scavenger hunt and part obstacle course as teams search for specific locations, crack cryptic clues, take photos, choose detours, and encounter roadblocks. Challenges will be physical and/or mental and clues may be solved by calling friends, using the internet, exchanging information with other teams, or simply asking strangers on the street. Teams will be comprised of two people, one of whom must be a McMaster graduate. Teams will not be subjected to elimination rounds and will three to four hours to complete.

The only allowable mode of transportation is by foot so that means running, walking or crawling. No rollerblading, cycling, skateboarding, horseback riding, HSR busing or taking cabs. Teams that break this rule will be unceremoniously disqualified.

The race begins at 11 a.m., rain or shine. Teams will meet at the McMaster University Student Centre on campus and will be taken to the starting point. The boundaries will be limited to Westdale and the campus.

The cost to participate is $60 per team and includes a barbecue meal and snacks on the course. A cash bar will be available.

Click here to register. Registration closes Aug. 10 at 12 p.m. Note that spaces are limited and same day registration will not be accepted. Information about start times, start location, rules, etc. will be emailed to all participants on Wednesday, August 10.
