Akerman defends gold at Ontario championship

McMaster’s Jennifer Akerman is Ontario’s top female university fencer in the sport’s foil category.
The second-year student-athlete successfully defended her gold medal at the Ontario University Athletics Women’s Fencing Championship at Kingston’s Royal Military College Feb. 8.
Akerman earned the Maître Ken Wood Trophy for her performance in the foil event, and was also named an OUA All-Star.
Her sportswomanship also earned her the tournament’s Dave O’Donnell Trophy.
Akerman was a finalist for the Mel and Marilyn Hawkrigg Award for female rookie of the year in 2013.
