A clear vision on clean air

McMaster's Alternative Commuting & Transportation Office has been recognized for promoting healthier living and cleaner air in the Hamilton area, by winning a VISION 2020 Sustainable Community Recognition Award from the City of Hamilton.
ACT was created in 2002 to reduce travel to campus by single occupant vehicles, by promoting walking, cycling, transit and carpooling to McMaster staff and students. The office is also working to reduce the demand on infrastructure within the school, to prevent expansion of parking lots, and reduce the stress on surrounding neighbourhoods.
“We're thrilled to receive this award,” says ACT co-ordinators Jennifer Dawson and Daryl Bender, “but we know that we could not have accomplished so much in our first two years without the support of our campus and community partners, including Compass Information Centre, MACycle Co-op, Parking & Transit Services and GO Transit.”
Vision 2020 has been striving towards a vision of a better community since 1992. The awards, created in 1997, recognize individuals, groups, businesses and organizations that take action to make Vision a reality.
Recipients are commemorated on plaques located on trail markers along Hamilton's Waterfront Trail.
