96 per cent of McMaster students are fully vaccinated
With the university’s Mandatory Vaccination Policy fully in place as of today (October 18th), McMaster’s students, faculty and staff have overwhelmingly uploaded their proof of vaccination.
More than 99 per cent of faculty and 96 per cent of staff have uploaded proof of vaccination to the MacCheck reporting tool.
Approximately 96 per cent of all students who are studying on campus have uploaded their proof. This number doesn’t include students who are studying fully remotely this fall and are unlikely to come to campus. This also does not include international students who have not yet arrived in Canada and are studying remotely.
“I want to thank everyone who got their shots and uploaded their vaccine status,” said provost Susan Tighe.“The health and safety of campus has been our top priority since the pandemic began and the incredibly high vaccine take up not only helps to protect our students, faculty and staff, it also helps pave the way to a winter 2022 term that will be mostly in person.”
Students are able to complete fall courses remotely even if they have not completed the upload of their vaccination receipts. However, they are not allowed to come to campus for any activities, including the library, the gym, studying. Similarly, staff or faculty who are not fully vaccinated are not permitted on campus or to visit any McMaster facility.
“Our students, faculty and staff have taken very seriously the need to be fully vaccinated with vaccination rates at the university significantly higher than in the community,” said AVP Students and Learning and dean of Students Sean Van Koughnett. “It is everyone coming together that is helping to keep the university and our broader community healthy and safe.”
