Power restored to Keyes, students can return as scheduled

9:00 a.m.: Power has been restored to Mary Keyes residence after a mechanical issue with a basement transformer caused smoke to be released through parts of the building.

Students on campus were able to return to the residence last night, and those returning after Reading Week may do so as scheduled.

Around 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 23 a mechanical issue with a basement transformer in Mary Keyes residence caused smoke to be released through parts of the building. The malfunction has been fixed. There were no injuries. Power to the building is expected to be restored during the evening hours.

Mary Keyes Residents currently on campus should head to Moulton Hall Basement to wait until the power is restored to the building and a return to your room is possible. A Residence Manager is available at this location.

Students who can find alternative accommodations for one night are encouraged to do so. Should an overnight sleeping centre be required, you will receive additional details with specifics on how to access this centre.

If you are currently away from campus for Reading Week please check the Daily News web site or call the Commons service desk at 905-525-9140, ext 27222 for updates before planning your return to campus.
We appreciate the patience and understanding students have shown during this disruption.
