Welcome Day to attract 4,000 students

welcome day 2011

Incoming students are greeted by upper-year ambassadors at Welcome Day in 2011. This year's Welcome Day will see approximately 4,000 incoming students visit campus for tours and lectures.

McMaster will host 4,000 incoming students and their parents Friday for Welcome Day, an orientation event that helps ease the transition from high school to university.

Joe Kim, from the Department of Psychology, Neuroscience and Behaviour, will speak to students about practical solutions to help them manage stress and competing demands and how to reboot their daily workflow.

David Shore and Matt Pachai, also from the Department of Psychology, Neuroscience and Behaviour, will discuss the importance of contextualizing knowledge gained in the classroom and reinforce the power of thoughtful reading, note-taking and studying.

Fun and informative tours will take place throughout Welcome Day, on campus and in downtown Hamilton. Residence tours led by upper-year students will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and “Pop the Bubble” city tours will run every 15 minutes on a Hamilton Street Railway (HSR) bus to give students and parents the feel of living off-campus.

Tours of the Museum of Art will also be offered.

Opportunities to meet University staff, faculty and upper-year students will be available through information sessions that range from tips about off-campus life and keeping your finances in check to taking effective study notes. Students will also learn about the First Generation and Common Reading Programs.
