Land. Minerals. Gems. Oil.

Wars have been fought over plenty of things throughout human history, but the world’s next battles may be fought over a much more important commodity: water.

Co-operation, rather than conflict, has been more common when it comes to historical disputes over water, but that could all change in the face of mounting demands, volatile supplies and extreme weather events, according to McMaster’s Dustin Garrick.

The Philomathia Foundation Professor in Water Policy and Research and renowned water policy expert is the next speaker in the Laureates of Peace public lecture series, part of the year-long Perspectives on Peace campaign.

Garrick will talk water wars and peace on October 21, from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Convocation Hall.

The talk is free to attend, and all are welcome.
