Last week, the 35th annual Student Recognition Night celebrated the magnificent achievements of some of McMaster’s best and brightest undergraduate students.

The March 19 event at Liuna Station recognized the hard work and dedication of all those nominated, including their efforts to improve the lives of fellow students and various communities both on and off campus.

Recipients of the 2014/2015 MSU Awards are as follows:

The Honour M Award, the highest award the MSU bestows, has been presented annually since 1932 in recognition of outstanding leadership, volunteer service, contribution and/or special achievement in extra-curricular activities. Thanks to the generosity of former MSU president and Honour M Award winner Stu Reid, current recipients are also given a financial prize for their efforts. This year’s winners are Naomi Pullen and Sara Halawa.

Nominees for the 2015 Honour M included: Meha Bhatt, Mike Cheung, Daniel D’Angela, Emily Hammond, Jamie Lai, Sean Mercer, Tristan Paul, Ameema Saeed, Natasha Sandhu, Jess Shoker, Matthew Wong-Pack.

The Rudy Heinzl Award of Excellence has been presented annually since 1997, in recognition of an outstanding one-year achievement which improves the lives of students at McMaster. This year’s winner is Jimmy Long.

Nominees for the 2015 Rudy Heinzl Award of Excellence included: Patricia Kousoulas, Jamie Lai and Ameema Saeed.

The MSU Merit Scholarship Award recognizes outstanding and valuable service to university, student or residence governments, departments, clubs, societies, charities or athletics. This year’s winners are Michael Gill and Dana Swarbrick.

Nominees for the 2015 MSU Merit Scholarship Award included: Hojin Choi, Miranda Clayton, Emily Hammond, Spencer Nestico-Semianiw, Rebecca Raminhos and Saad Syed.

The J. Lynn Watson Award for Community Service has been presented annually since 1983 by the MSU and the Inter-Residence Council to the campus group that has made the greatest one-year contribution to charitable giving. This year’s winner is McMaster Arts for Children.

Nominees for the 2015 J. Lynn Watson Award for Community Service included: McMaster Association of West Indian Students, McMaster Red Cross Group, McMaster Relay for Life, McMaster Smiling Over Sickness and the Pakistan Development Fund.

The MSU Spirit Award is presented to the campus group that has best demonstrated superior spirit on campus. This year’s winner is MacBEAT.

Part-Time Manager of the Year recognizes the MSU part-time manager who has best excelled in the management of his or her service. This year’s winner is Jimmy Long, MSU Spark. 

SRA Member of the Year is presented to the Student Representative Assembly member who has made the greatest one-year contribution to students and the work of the SRA. This year’s winner is Daniel D’Angela (finance commissioner/executive board member).
