Shining for a cause

McMaster students raised more than $116,000 for cystic fibrosis research and awareness during last week’s Shinerama campaign.

Shinerama is Canada’s largest post-secondary fundraiser and involves 50,000 students at more than 70 institutions nation-wide.

The campaign saw students running a number of smaller fundraisers throughout the week. On Saturday, they took to the streets to wash cars throughout the city.

The Faculty of Science raised the most funds as an individual unit, bringing in $23,000 for the cause.

“We did very, very well this year,” said Alyscia McMullin, who heads up the campaign on campus. “This is the first year we’ve broke the six-digit barrier, so we’re really happy about the campaign.”

McMullin says there are still lots of ways to get involved or make a contribution. Those interested can go to shinerama.ca for details.
