Thursday May 5th marks the beginning of two photography exhibits being shown at McMaster’s Museum of Art.

Have you noticed the hashtag #ThisIsMyHamilton circulating on social media recently? Joseph Hartman is a native of Barrie Ontario and McMaster graduate who will be showing off his body of photographical work titled Hamilton. The hashtag is meant to spark discussion amongst the exhibit viewers and encourage them to contribute, visually, to what the city of Hamilton means to them.

Suzy Lake is the other artist who will be exhibiting at the Museum. Her photography, Performing An Archive, is an exploration and questioning of social issues and identity. Lake is the 2016 recipient of the Scotiabank Photography Award and the 2016 recipient of the Governor General’s Award in Visual and Media Arts.

Lake was featured in The Globe and Mail and The Star earlier this week.

A reception for both exhibits is Thursday, May 5, from 7-9 p.m. and the work will be viewable at the Museum until August 20, 2016.
