Evolutionary geneticist Hendrik Poinar and the rock band Arkells will be featured on the CBC Radio show Q Friday morning.

The show, a daily arts, culture and entertainment program hosted by Jian Ghomeshi, will be taped Thursday night in front of a live audience at Mohawk College’s McIntyre Performing Arts Centre.

Poinar, an associate professor of anthropology and director of McMaster’s Ancient DNA Centre, recently made headlines when he and a team of researchers sequenced the entire genome of the Black Death. He has also mapped the genome of the wooly mammoth.

The band Arkells, made up of McMaster social sciences alumni, formed on campus and is named after an area street.

The show will also feature blues artist Rita Chiarelli, playwright Sky Gilbert and actor – and zombie “expert” – John Migliore.

It was previewed January 30 in The Hamilton Spectator.

Q airs at 10 a.m. on CBC Radio One. Audio will be available online the day after broadcast.
