Graduate student Sherald Sanchez marvels at the resiliency of Syrian refugees, particularly women, who have survived the horrors of war and now face all the challenges of building a new life in a foreign country.

As part of her thesis work in the Global Health program, Sanchez is working to find better ways to integrate Syrian families into the community so they will become completely independent.

She will tell you that these women don’t want our sympathy.  They are strong and determined.

Recently, she spoke with the Hamilton Spectator about her research, her experiences within the community and her volunteer work.
