Grad students: Deadline fast approaching to enter Falling Walls competition

Falling Walls LAB

Own the podium: Falling Walls Lab participant John Woodland from South Africa took third place in last year's international competition.

McMaster is holding its first-ever Falling Walls Lab this September, with a ticket to Berlin on the line.

The upcoming event will give McMaster graduate students and postdoctoral fellows an opportunity to present a research project, business plan, entrepreneurial idea or social initiative that is relevant today.

Each presenter will have just three minutes and three slides — one slide with his or her name and presentation title followed by two content slides — to convey any number of major themes and ideas.

Click here to apply. The deadline for applications to the University Lab is Monday, Aug. 11. From the applicant group, 15 grad students and postdocs will be selected to take part in the McMaster Lab in September.

A jury will select one winner from the University, and that individual will represent McMaster at the Falling Walls Lab Finale in Germany in November.

The winner from McMaster will also receive a ticket to the Falling Walls Conference on Sunday, Nov. 9. The conference features presentations by some of the world’s most prominent scientists.

The Lab Finale in Berlin will feature 100 international and interdisciplinary participants. The top three presenters at the Lab Finale are invited to present their concepts at the Falling Walls Conference the following day.

Who can apply? Organizers are looking for innovative thinkers from all disciplines up to 35 years of age. All questions can be directed to gsevent@mcmaster.ca.
