Facility Services team with Julie Bronson, Collections Administrator, and Ihor Holubizky unveil 'Embrace' statue.

What looks to be a new statue installed next to the Dr. Robert & Andrée Rhéaume Fitzhenry Studios and Atrium has actually been resurrected from storage.

Facility Services, along with Carol Podedworny and Ihor Holubizky from the McMaster Museum of Art, helped with the placement of the Augustin Filipovic piece, titled Embracing, on the ground outside the studio on Thursday, February 4th, 2016 where it can be viewed and appreciated by the University community.

Artist Filipovic, born in Croatia in 1931, created the bronze statue in 1984. He studied in Zagreb and Rome before immigrating to Canada in 1959. He later passed away in Toronto, where he also taught, in 1998. He was elected to the Royal Canadian Academy, an honourary organization of over 790 established professional artists and designers from all regions of Canada.

Irving Zucker donated the statue to McMaster in 1992. It was originally mounted in the location of the McMaster University Student Centre prior to its construction but was placed in storage and stayed there for the last 16 years, until yesterday.
