has been extended for one year. Phil Wood continues in his role through June 30, 2013
allowing McMaster's next provost the opportunity to lead the search for the next dean
of students.

“McMaster is well-served by Phil's leadership and his commitment to our students,” said
President Patrick Deane. “We are grateful for his willingness to continue serving for one
more year as we await the appointment of the new provost who will lead the search for
our next associate vice-president student affairs.”

Wood joined McMaster's Faculty of Engineering in 1983 and served as chair of the
chemical engineering department and associate dean of engineering prior to being
appointed associate vice-president and dean of students in 2002. He was awarded a
prestigious 3M National Teaching Fellowship in 1993.

He was reappointed to a second term in 2007 and that term was set to conclude this
June.

“I look forward to continuing to work with the best Student Affairs team and the best
students in the country during this time of transition,” Wood said. “There is great
excitement and energy within Student Affairs that is fueled by our students and their
accomplishments.”
