The campus community is preparing for the arrival of some of the world’s best soccer players as the Pan Am Games draw near.

McMaster was selected as the satellite village for hosting about 400 players and team officials during the Games. Those athletes will participate in the Pan Am tournament with games played at Hamilton’s new football and soccer stadium located on Melrose Avenue.

No games or practices will be held on campus.

“This is an exciting opportunity for McMaster and Hamilton to play host to some of the world’s best athletes,” says Roger Couldrey, vice-president Administration. “McMaster is proud to have been chosen to host the soccer athletes and team officials during the Games and I am sure the entire McMaster community will warmly welcome our visitors.”

Some quick facts on McMaster’s role as a Pan Am host:

  • The teams will be staying in Les Prince Hall and some Games officials will be based in Hedden Hall
  • If you are around campus in July, you will notice a few things are different than usual, but we’ve worked hard to mitigate any impact and our planning fully accommodates our kids camps that run during the same period
  • The Games officials are renting LOT H and a temporary fence will be installed around its perimeter, but you will be able to walk across the lot and access the areas around that zone
  • LOT M is also being rented for a spectator parking area (fans will park there and then be bussed to the stadium where games will be played)
  • In order to accommodate our Sports camps parents the University will use LOT G for pick up and drop off for parents and campers.
  • Athletes and officials will be eating meals in Centro

All Games vehicles will enter and exit campus via the gated entrance at the north end of campus off Forsyth North – this entry will be closed to all other vehicular traffic and there will be a security attendant stationed there

If you park in Lot H, Lot M or Lot G you will have received your temporary parking lot assignment for the month of July.

You’ll begin to notice some of the preparation work beginning July 1 – teams will begin arriving shortly thereafter. The Games run July 10-26.
