Alumnae recognized as Women of Distinction

Two recent Arts & Science Program graduates were honoured Wednesday night at the
href=”http://ywcahamilton.akaraisin.com/2BD09B1AD45E4BA199221762C9CD799C”>
YWCA Hamilton's Women of Distinction ceremony.

Mary Koziol and Jeanette Eby were two of ten women recognized by the organization for
the positive impact they have on the Hamilton community.

Koziol, who graduated in 2011, was recognized in the politics and public affairs
category.

The first female president of the McMaster Students Union in more than 20 years, Koziol
worked to establish the id=3984″>Bachelor of Technology Program at the University.

McMaster's vice-president university advancement Mary Williams, who earned her degree in kinesiology from McMaster, was nominated in the volunteerism category.

Mary Koziol and Jeanette Eby were two of ten women recognized by the organization for <br />
the positive impact they have on the Hamilton community. <br />
<br />
Koziol, who graduated in 2011, was recognized in the politics and public affairs <br />
category. <br />
<br />
The first female president of the McMaster Students Union in more than 20 years, Koziol <br />
worked to establish the <a href="http://dailynews.mcmaster.ca/story.cfm?<br />
id=6922">campus farmers market</a> and developed a new service-learning course, <br />
which she will co-teach next year.<br />
<br />
Eby, who graduated in 2009, was honoured with the Young Woman of Distinction <br />
award. <br />
<br />
She was instrumental in facilitating the <a <br />
href="http://dailynews.mcmaster.ca/story.cfm?id=8376">McMaster Discovery <br />
Program</a>, which offers a free, non-credit university course for those who would <br />
otherwise be unable to access post-secondary education. <br />
<br />
"As their instructor, I greatly appreciated the energy, creativity and critical insight both Jeanette and Mary brought to our work in the class," said Jean Wilson, director of Arts & Science. "Now, as director, I&#039;m grateful for the leadership they continue to provide to undergraduate students. The entire Arts & Science community extends its warmest congratulations to these two accomplished alumnae."<br />

Two other alumnae also earned Women of Distinction Awards at Wednesday&#039;s ceremony.<br />
<br />
Jan Lukas, a McMaster kinesiology graduate and now a retired high school guidance <br />
counsellor and teacher, was recognized for her work in volunteerism.<br />
<br />
Lukas donates her time to a number of groups, including Grandmothers of Steel, the <br />
United Way and the Ancaster Food Drive. <br />
<br />
Cheryl Jensen, vice-president academic at Mohawk College, was honoured as a <br />
trailblazer. <br />
<br />
Jensen, who earned her degree in science from McMaster, helped develop the <br />
McMaster-Mohawk <a href="http://dailynews.mcmaster.ca/story.cfm?<br />
id=3984">Bachelor of Technology Program</a> at the University.<br />
<br />
McMaster&#039;s vice-president university advancement Mary Williams, who earned her degree in kinesiology from McMaster, was nominated in the volunteerism category.
