Week of July 8: Campus construction updates

A summary of this week’s busy summer construction season on campus.

All work is weather permitting and changes to the schedule will be posted here and on the Facility Services website.

Parking Lot K closed for three weeks beginning Monday, July 8

Parking Lot K will be closed from Monday, July 8 to Monday, July 29, 2024 for repaving work. The adjacent sidewalk and stairs will also be closed during this time. Those who park in Lot K will be notified with further instructions on temporary parking assignments.

University Avenue lane reduction Friday, July 12 for MUMC crane lift

As part of McMaster University Medical Centre’s ongoing roof replacement project, a crane unit will be positioned on University Avenue on Friday, July 12. The section of University Avenue between Forsyth Avenue and College Crescent will be reduced to one lane, with two-way traffic. Temporary road signs, barriers and traffic control persons will be in place to assist, with priority given to emergency vehicles and traffic flowing into campus.

Stearn Drive closes Friday, July 19 at 6 p.m and over the weekend for MCCD crane lift

A section of Stearn Drive will be closed to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic this weekend as an air handling unit is lifted onto the 10th floor of the McLean Centre for Collaborative Discovery project. The closure will impact Stearn Drive from the main entrance of the David Braley Athletic Centre (DBAC) to the Michell Crescent intersection from Friday, July 19 at 6 p.m. to Monday, July 22 at 5 a.m.

Vehicular traffic needing access to the north section of campus will be rerouted through the swing gate onto Forsyth Avenue and through parking Lot H. During the crane lift, pedestrian traffic will be rerouted through DBAC and the HUB building. Temporary signage and traffic control will be in place to minimize impact to campus.
