Web security – Update Oct. 5
Oct. 5: A group of anonymous web activists is targeting some university computer systems around the world, including a small number of servers containing information about a few McMaster departments and centres: the Canadian Centre for Electron Microscopy and Brockhouse Institute for Materials Research, the Origins Institute and the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.
UTS is continuing its forensic review of the data. The majority of files accessed contained information that is older and, in most cases, publically available. No credit card information, user names or passwords were disclosed. Some very limited disclosure of information such as degree dates has occurred.
UTS is continuing its review of preventative protocols to mitigate future risk.
Oct. 4: A group of anonymous web activists is targeting some university computer systems around the world, including a small number of servers containing information about a few McMaster departments and centres.
McMaster University Technology Services (UTS) says some lists and other publically-available material have been copied from four servers containing information about the Canadian Centre for Electron Microscopy and Brockhouse Institute for Materials Research, the Origins Institute and the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.
UTS has completed a system-wide scan and is continuing its review of preventative protocols to mitigate future risk.
