Update on the search for the next Vice-President Research

As the search for the next Vice-President Research begins, the position’s mandate and responsibilities have been reviewed and modified.

Given the importance of the research enterprise to the mission of the University, the re-imagined role of Vice-President Research will focus more intensively on supporting, promoting and advancing research and scholarship, and maintaining and further strengthening McMaster’s international standing as a leading research-intensive institution.

The Office of International Affairs, led by Peter Mascher, will continue the critically important work of developing international partnerships and collaborations and implementing a coordinated approach to McMaster’s international engagements. To ensure that this work is integrated fully into the broader academic mission of the University, the Office will transfer into the Provost’s portfolio with effect from July 1, 2015.

After leading the growth and development of McMaster’s research and international affairs portfolio for more than seven years, Mo Elbestawi has announced that he is stepping down from the position as of June 30, 2015.

The search committee is conducting an international search. You can learn more about its work here.
