Update – Marauders head football coach

An independent third-party report into an incident involving McMaster’s head football coach Greg Knox has now been received by the University.  After careful consideration, the University has determined it will be proceeding with a leadership change of the football program. Knox is no longer employed by the University and not part of the coaching staff.

The independent investigation was begun after an incident at a game against Wilfrid Laurier University in late September, which involved allegations of harassment and threats of physical violence made against a sideline game official.

McMaster University is committed to fostering a respectful and inclusive community in which all members of the University work, study, and live free of harassment.

As an employer, the University is bound by privacy guidelines so no additional details on the specifics of the report or the incident will be released.

McMaster remains committed to its student athletes and to supporting and strengthening its football program. Meetings have now been held with coaches and players to share as much information as is possible. These meetings included reminders about the principles that are the foundation of the University’s process and the decision that has been made, and that everyone has a role to play ensuring these values are upheld.

Coaching changes can be a challenge for everyone on the team, particularly with a playoff game coming this weekend. The University is providing supports to team members who may have questions about the change.

A national search for a new head coach will begin after the current season is over. For the remainder of this season, Tom Flaxman and Scott Brady will continue as interim head coaches.
