Survivor’s Flag and orange lights mark National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on campus
In recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Sept. 30, the university is flying the Survivors’ Flag over University Hall from Sept. 23 until Oct. 1.
The Survivors’ Flag is an expression of remembrance, to honour residential school survivors and all the lives and communities affected by the residential school system in Canada.
Each element depicted on the flag was carefully selected by survivors from across Canada, who were consulted in the flag’s creation.
The exteriors of Hamilton Hall and University Hall will also be lit up orange from sundown till dawn every evening from Sept. 23 until the morning of Oct. 1, to honour the children who did not come home from residential schools, the survivors and their families.
On Monday, Sept. 30, flags on campus will be lowered until the following morning.
