Sterling Street road closure begins April 27
The City of Hamilton will fully close Sterling Street for sewer repair as of April 27.
The closure, which will impact all vehicles, will be near the university entrance between Forsyth Avenue and Whitton Avenue. This closure is expected to last throughout summer. Traffic will be delayed and everyone is encouraged to plan for extra time to access campus, including students who are writing exams.
Impact of the street closure
Driving to campus
The city is directing drivers to use King Street and Forsyth Avenue as the detour route. The Sterling Street entrance will remain open. Expect slowdowns on the detour route.
Bus routes
Hamilton Street Railway (HSR) bus routes 1A, 5A/C and 51 that usually travel along Sterling Street will be on detour in both directions. Buses will continue to access campus using King Street and Forsyth Avenue to enter through Sterling Street. Temporary bus stop signage will be installed along King Street.
Pedestrians
Pedestrians will be able to use the south sidewalk on Sterling which will remain open through the construction zone.
Cyclists
The city is asking cyclists travelling on Sterling Street to dismount and walk their bike on the south sidewalk when crossing through the construction area.
Please keep safety in mind by following all traffic and pedestrian signs.
